The topic of a UK GlacierWear order came up on the UK Vulture Culture FB group today and I offered to do one this year as I’m in a pretty good spot atm. If you’re interested please join the FB group and join the eventI’d much prefer to do it all through FB as it’d be a lot easier for me to keep track of that way, but you can contact me through DeviantArt as well. I know there are people outside the UK who’d like to get involved, if you’re in the EU it should be doable for you to get involved, though postage from UK to wherever you are would be a major factor.

To clarify - This would be an order of any NON CITES species that Glacier Wear have advertised on their US website to myself in the UK, and then I distribute each persons order. Glacier Wear are an American based company and sell fur, skulls, finished and craft items from American species including coyote, skunk, racoon, mink and many more. They will not post CITES species internationally (they just won’t), so Wolf, Bear, Cougar/Mountain Lion, Lynx, Bobcat and Otter are all off limits. Bison can be bought as they sell domesticated bison, but it did cause some problems with customs on the last order.
I would act as the organiser - you would have to send me the list of items you want from Glacier Wear and paypal me the money (in USDs) to cover both the items and your part of the projected US to UK shipping costs for the whole order. I would then send the whole order and money to Glacier Wear, they would process and post the order. Once the order gets to me I would contact each person and ask how they would like to get their order from me to them (be it postage or pickup). In the case of postage I would calculate it and ask for another paypal amount to cover it.

I can’t give any definitive numbers at this time as the cost for each person will vary on how many people are involved and the size of the actual order (in both size and value), but the export fee for the last order (in 2015) was $125 (it’s a blanket cost for the one shipment) and as the value of the order was quite high the shipping cost around $250. Once the order gets to the UK there’s also an import duty/handling fee which is usually 10%-20% of the total package worth. And then there’d be the cost of postage from myself to you.

It’s not cheap, but it’s a lot cheaper the more people are involved in the order and it’s a 100% legal order of American species to the UK/EU. If you’re interested please comment on the Facebook event by the 31st May!

I haven't been very active this year but I couldn't pass up being involved in a SS!

On Thursday I sat the last exam of my Bsc Animal Management degree.

It's weird, I now have all the time I want to work on taxidermy and dead things, and crafting things for my etsy and taking photos. I'm applying for part time jobs for a steady income on the side as well, but I'm looking forward to having time to skin and tan things (I've still got two fox skins sitting in the freezer).

Well, I'm still most active on tumblr. Please like my Facebook page and check out what I've got for sale on etsy :) Every sale I put straight back into buying more materials! And I'm always open to custom orders ;)
Jumping on the bandwagon :) And I will see if I can send something to someone else, goodness knows I've met some lovely people in the taxidermy community and I want to share that. Sorry if any of the items I list are pie in the sky, but hey ho!

Rules
  1. Post up a journal with 10-15 things you'd like for Christmas.
  2. Feature other people at the bottom of your journal.
  3. Make sure to try and send other people gifts, even just sending card is nice!
  4. Asking for none taxidermy items is fine, but if you don't want any this might be the wrong SS for you.
  5. Please include your address on the journal or a way for people to contact you to get your address to send the gift.
  6. Include the rules in your journal.

I think it's an important point that buying or trading in taxidermy items is not the same as buying general goods. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to guarantee the original source of items, or even if they are legal for trade. So any person interested in taxidermy should make sure to check their local laws, and also to check if future purchases/trades are legal in their countries otherwise you may end up out of pocket

So a few pointers:
:bulletblue: Ask the other person lots of questions, and so long as you're polite about it, don't feel like you're being rude
:bulletred: If you don't know the species, err on the side of caution, or do enough research that you are 100% sure what the species is
:bulletgreen: Check CITEs - this applies to all animals and is a global agreement to restrict/limit the trade of some species. This is in the interest of conservation, preventing over-harvesting of species and the exploitation of endangered species. So if it's a non-domestic animal it's likely worth checking the CITEs listing. Anything on appendix 2 or 3 should have paper (from the original origin/import/export of the item) to prove the item was legally sourced.

Some useful links:
:star: Import/export of fur (and fur products) in the UK: www.gov.uk/importing-animal-fu…
:star: CITEs search function: www.unep-wcmc-apps.org/isdb/ex…

UK restrictions:
:bulletyellow: the Wildlife and Countryside Act includes some clauses on the sale / trade / owning of dead animal parts etc so it's worth reading : www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1…
:bulletred: List of UK native species which must not be deliberately killed or collected : www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1…. If these species are found dead and you wish to salvage them, contact your local council. A postmortem may be needed on some species to ascertain the cause of death. The best course of action is to document (with photos) how it was found, where, etc.
:bulletwhite: You need to be a licensed taxidermist to work on or own a badger pelt

+ EU wide the sale of cat or dog fur, or products containing such fur, is banned europa.eu/legislation_summarie…

Basically, be wise otherwise you may (at best) lose out on an item or (at worse) land yourself a hefty fine and some jail time! And remember, these restrictions are not in place to inconvenience people, or make more money - they're in place to protect the animals which these products ultimately come from.
  • Reading: exam revision
Went through my old deviations yesterday and have put a lot of stuff in storage (was procrastinating revision for my finance exam which is today haha). I left wing stock available, as well as a couple of other stock photo which I know people have used. If there are any other photos that people would like me to keep in my gallery for stock usage just comment/send me a note :)
Though actually that's old news, my boyfriend of 2 years proposed to me whilst we were in the IoW (celebrating our 2 year anniversary)

Work ofc has taken up most of my life this summer. I haven't even had time to get my ring resized (it's a wee bit too big). And now, I'm busy trying to organise moving from Slough to rented accommodation in Southampton ready for uni. Which is a nightmare in itself, trying to organise viewings etc round my fiance and mine's work, and worrying about moving, finding jobs in Southampton, bills and having enough money.
Best of all, my fiance's parents are happy to help us (and are in fact coming with us to the viewings and giving us a lift down there), but can offer us no financial help, whilst my parents have said that they won't help at all. And I can't even discuss it with them. My own parents are refusing to help me with one of the biggest things in my life so far. Just because I decided that it was better to move out to Southampton with my fiance and my animals instead of staying in the college halls, and they think I'd be better off in halls for the first year.
So I'm having to organise viewings, decide on a place, move out, deal with the finances, without any help from my parents. Though I think they're at least going to help me buy clothing/equipment that I need before I go to Sparsholt (need safety boots and overalls etc for my animal degree).

I'm terrified ):

Other news :
:bulletred: My boss lied to me about ordering vivs that I need for my snakes before the end of the month and is just generally jerking me around (as usual)
:bulletred: I've barely picked up my camera in the past 2 months (apart from the IoW)
:bulletgreen: My baby snakes have had their first birthdays!
:bulletgreen: I'm going to Kempton Park Reptile Show this Sunday
:bulletred: I broke my iPod screen (I dropped it at work and cracked the screen) and still haven't gotten it fixed
:bulletblue: I would much appreciate any advice people could give me on renting / organising renting ):

I've been debating with myself whether or not to start a picture a day now or wait til my macro filter arrives (which will be +1 week). As I've taken a picture nearly every day since getting my new camera, I thought I might as well get into the habit of taking and uploading a picture every day.

So yes, I should actually be active :XD:
... and I already hate it XD I opted for the Panasonic Lumix G2 because when I tested it back in August - I loved the camera itself, how light and compact it was and the touch screen.

However, testing my G2 today, I have learnt several things!

1) I don't know a lot about how cameras actually work
2) the bog standard 14-42 lens apparently hates macro (or at least I can't get it to work)
3) a proper macro lens, eg. a LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 45mm / F2.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. lens costs around £600!
4) my laptop won't show RAW files as pictures ... but then again I don't know if it should show RAW copys of pictures as pictures anyway ... XD

I think I should perhaps have gone for a Canon or a Nikon ... or maybe I'd simply be even more confused XD Or maybe I should just learn a little patience and give myself to learn the ins and outs of my new camera. I do miss my old Fuji though, as my dad finally claimed it back.

So yes, I'm back in business with photos! Though it will probably be a sporadic, love/hate affair till I get to grips with my new camera.

I'm legal for lots of things now 8D LIKE BOOZE AND BLADES WHOOP WHOOP!
It also means that I pay adult prices for some stuff now though >:
And my childhood has ended now XD

In other news ...</div>
I'm not happy with my gallery. It's hideously full, with mixed quality images, stock, and it's all just a mess! So I'm considering opening another account just for stock and keeping DelinquentDog as my good quality photos.
It's a bit of a shame because it'll mean juggling 3 different accounts (I still have my drawings over at DrawingShadow, though I've got 200 journals to read through XD), and loosing the favourites on the stock photos that I have on this account, but it'll mean that my gallery on this account will look a lot nicer and I can organise my stock photos on the other account.

and I'm gunna muck around with CSS when I can find something that tells me what all the new CSS headings/group bits are since DA upgraded/changed it all. I swear I had something favourited somewhere but it's gone ;_;

Rant : WPoY 08

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 13, 2009, 1:09 PM
Thank you for all the :+fav:s, :+devwatch:s and the comments :thanks:

Warning : Rant incoming (I swore I wouldn't write another spam-ful journal, but...here I am!)

Wildlife Photographer of the Year. A major wildlife photographer competition, that had over 33,000 entries last year and in it's first year had barely 900. Professionals and amateurs enter it each year, and judging is done by panels of proffesionals and other photographers who are not given the details behind the photo (such as the photographer's name, age, profession, the blurb attached to each photo when it is entered into the competition).

But when I went to have a look at the display of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2008 (showing winners, runners-up and the highly commended), ... one man, Steve Winter mopped the floor. One of his photos won the Gerald Durrell Award for Endangered Wildlife as well as two other of his photographs being highly commended in the same category. Another photograph was a runners up in Animal Behaviour: Mammals category. His winning photo also made him the overall winner of the (adult) Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

I congratulate him on winning. But when I read the blurb on some of the photos... he's a professional photographer funded by National Geographic. And the photographs he took of snow leopards were taken using a remote control sensor.
I know that a) there's be no other way of getting a half decent photograph of a snow leopard b)remote control cameras are awesome and very useful for taking photographs of shy/rare/nocturnal/crepuscular animals. There is also a c). You can't prevent "professional" photographers from entering a worldwide competition. That just wouldn't be fair. And the man won fair and square.

But OMG does it rankles that the man is PAID for his time and money, as he treks into the reaches of some mountain range for a friggin' kickass photo of a rare and elusive creature (though there is also the chance he might not get any decent photographs at all). But if you look at the quality of the photographs - they aren't that amazing. If someone handed you a print of one, you wouldn't go - WOW! That's a really nice photograph, and it has a snow leopard in it!

Guess I'm just jealous because I entered two photographs that got as far as the Semi Final of Judging before getting knocked out, when three of his photographs were highly commended or better. And I forgot to enter this years competition (I was nearly smashing my head through the wall when I tried to enter on the 31st of March, and it told me that the competition closed for entries on the 29th), so next year I'll have to pay to enter the adult categories. I don't hold out much hope for that.
Hmmmmm..... jealousy is a new feeling over my photographs :P

In other news, I'm saving for a DSLR. I'm only £40 towards a £700+ camera so far! And of course this isn't related to the rant above this sentence!

I hope the Judges of Wildlife Photographer of the Year are squirming in discomfort. I really really really do.

And in other news :
:pointr: I was in charge of our group on the Small Mammal's unit on Wednesday. Managed to get all the jobs done, as well as a couple of extra jobs that she hadn't expected to get done. Namely, cleaning out the ferret's shed of hay. We had to remove the ferrets, all 10 of them, before we could easily clean out the hay. Got kind of annoying when the people helping me were scared of getting bitten by them.

:pointr: Finished most of my college work for my first year of the course already. I've only got to retake/edit one test (which was suddenly sprung upon us today), and edit a report and hand it in before the 13th February.

:pointr: Had "Team Building" today, as part of our Tutorial week (basically, a week off timetable). Team building consisted of being split into groups of 5 by our tutor, and then having to complete team tasks - like getting from one end of a path of logs to the other without touching the ground sort of thing. That was... alright. The first couple of challenges we had a stab at, but seeing as a) team building was compulsory, b) we didn't choose our own teams, and c) we've only been at the college for 6 months. That's not very long to get to know someone. And forcing people to work together doesn't make for happy times.

:pointr: I have a trial day at a local boarding kennels & cattery on Monday 2nd Feb. It's the turning point on whether or not I get a part time job there. If I do get it, I'll be working 8 till 5 on Mondays. That could be knackering till I get used to the routine (if I get the job). I've even got competition (lol), the girl who I sit next to on the coach is also hoping to get a job there.

:pointr: I am, apparently, never enthusitic about things. The only things my parents can think of are : when I had to research info and state my case, trying to get a fishtank, and then later, two rats.
....That was an interesting discovery =_=

:pointr: Going round a college friend's house tomorrow. Yay sleepover! And I'll be taking my camera as the friend has two dogs and a very cute chinchilla ^^

YAY MY BIRTHDAY

Sat Jan 17, 2009, 4:03 AM
YAY! :excited:

As of the passing of the 16th of January, I'm now 17 - another year to add to my tally of living!

Thank you everyone for the comments! :thanks:

My day:

Went to college - which isn't so bad seeing as it finishes at 1pm in Fridays.Got loads of cards from my college friends. Had Biology for two hours, looking at skeletons (which I'm pretty interested in actually), and got set an in-class task of design a new creature. *lol* So my friends gave me the animals and I drew the creature - which turned out pretty cute loooking in the end XD
Had an hour of practical - cleaning out the Rhea's old straw bedding. Basically, shoveling bird crap.
At least I didn't fall into it
And when we (me and two other people) went to get more straw (because the previous two people who'd been sent for straw were taking forever and a day), we found that the straw was in a giant block as hard as concrete! I bent one of the (pitch)forks trying to seperate it!

After college, myself and two friends got on my regulare coach and then got off at Maidenhead. Wandered around Waterstones (book store) for a while, and I bought two books I'd been on the lookout for. Then we went to the cinema and watched Madagscar 2 and I had my first serving of Ben & Jerry's ice cream :D I LOVE FISH FOOD
Then we wandered around Maidenhead trying to find a Pizza Ezpress, eventually found one and had a really late lunch - using the discount on the back of the cinema tickets :D

It was a nice day hanging around with my college friends :) I would have invited my old school friends (and The-Magical-Platypus & Skryke ) but they were still in school.

Zoo trip
I was gunna go to Paradise Wildlife Park today, but I got up too late for the trip to have been worth while =_= The park closes at 5pm at it would take us an hour to get there, so we'll go there next weekend (hopefuly).

Is it just me...

... or has my page gone back to normal? (It's no longer the snazzy new layout).
Anyone got the same thing? Or know who I should/note/help desk about this?

Oh, Fixed it
Just had to re-activate the shiny-front-page
twigged it after I read OwlGem's journal, after I'd sent off a note thingy to the help desk =_____=

I should really get more sleep...
I've been staying up till 11pm/midnight for like the past month, but still getting up at 7am for college. I really should turn in earlier before my brain (completly) turns to mush.

OH WHY DO THEY PUT ALL MY FAVOURITE PROGRAMS ON AT 9PM AND ONWARDS?! :noes:

About my Photography

My gallery is made up almost completely of photos. This is because I love taking photos of things, both common things that have more emotional meaning to me, and also I try to capture those moments in time, moments that may never happen again, and I like to share these moments. Most of my photos I took so that they could be used as stock, but please read the artist comments before using my photos, as some of my photos I feel more protective of, and would rather that people didnít use them as stock. But feel free to note me and ask!

Regarding Photoshop, and the editing I have done to my photos, the most I do with them once Iíve downloaded them onto my computer, is to rotate them and some times crop them. I mention in the artistís comment whenever I fiddle with saturation and stuff. I donít Photoshop my photographs.

The only photos I've edited are obviously edited and sorted into a seperate folder from my other photos.

A New Year

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 31, 2008, 12:49 AM

Been looking bakc at the past year. I started this wonderful year with 11 watchers and 1,800 pageviews, and now it's 69 watchers 10,994 pageviews :wow: And my 808 deviations were viewed 16,827 times :O

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

But it's not all about the numbers - I just can't rememeber what I've been doing this year apart from DA, Exams (both mock and real), 3 week holiday in the USA, starting college, my grandmother's (and more recently, my great aunt's) deaths.
Haha - I've been reading through my journals (starting this year), and I've realised that I do far too many. Please tell me if I'm being ridiculous with journals :XD: - though on the upside I have a pretty good idea of what I've been doing this year - I should probably just set up a blog rather than fill message inboxes ^^;

I've improved in my photography (I think).
If not improved, I've at least diversified

I've also made some new friends this year :)

But feel free to note me and ask!

it's all gone quiet on my DA account, and will proably stay that way for the next week at least. i'll be uber busy at school, working my @$$ off so i get to pass my GCSEs and i'm not stuck at school with after school detentions :(
I have lost all drive to draw, and if you would care to know why, it is because of my tyranical art teacher. he is constantly telling me my work isn't that good, and that i should do better. i see his point; i do not draw realistically (though i wish i could) and i AM working towards adapting my style - but i am still FAILING art. I took art as a little light relief, but it has in fact turned into one of my biggest headaches. the summer holidays was a welcome relief from said headache. :p

so yeah, i am not in the mood to do any artwork. i haven't even been doodling much at school during lessons. i will continue with delinquentdog.deviantart.com/a… soon draconicdarcena - i'm half way through colouring him in so far.

been really busy back at school, also have been distracted by a killer toothache (like.. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!) so i havn't had much spare time. sorry draconicdarcena! I will try to finish my end of the art trade this weekend.
School sucks, especially as i have already been given two pieces of homework in a two lesson school day. how annoying is that?!?!?!?!

so yeah, IF for some strange reason i got any art trade offers or requests or anything, (coz i am still open to do them people), i will try my best to do it quickly, but to the best of my abilities.
:painter:

:o oh god that last bit sounded so corny.
Saw the awesome-ness that was the Pixel ID.
Currently working on my own... on Paint. :eyepopping: This may take me a while... ^^;
